Day of Love - I Have to Say It

I have to say it - I am married to an incredible man and he is perfect - at least, for me. LifePrints is almost a year old and because of its focus I don't talk very much about my family, unless I can tie it into my theme.

What better theme than the universal day of love to tell to you about my husband, Todd? It's perfect.

"I fell in love with you in kindergarten," he told me one day.

"What do you mean? I didn't know you back then," was my bewildered response. We'd been dating for a while and were sharing dessert in one of those fancy fondue restaurants.

"Yeah. One day when I was about 5, my friend told me he had a girlfriend with pretty blond hair and the brightest blue eyes he'd ever seen and her name was Lisa D. I feel in love with the idea of you and never forgot your name. So when I saw you for real in the 7th grade it was like you walked right out of my dreams."

I rested my head on his shoulder and swallowed the lump in my throat. So much had happened between junior high and this day in the restaurant - a winding path of close friendship, other loves, lives, and families. And some how, so many years later, we still ended up here, fulfilling a little boy's fantasy or was it his destiny?

That was a little over 5 years ago and on Valentine's Day I am reminded again that we are meant to live as one. A necklace fell out of my card this morning, a hematite donut with a moon charm suspended in the middle. He made it for me last night after holding onto the stone since last spring. He'd bought it in a little rock store in the New Mexico mountains.

On Christmas Eve I made a lapis donut necklace, wire wrapped with an identical moon charm and hid the little box under the tree. I'd carried the stone in my wallet since the day I bought it last spring in a little rock store in the New Mexico mountains.

I didn't know. He didn't know...and yet perfection.

Yeah, I hate him. I absolutely hate him. For he setting such a bad example for the rest of us manly men.

By the way: has anyone said that he looks a lot like Daniel Day-Lewis? Yeah, that would be another reason to absolutely hate him (TIC)!

Jerry,'re so sweet.

So rise to the occasion. You can do it. There is still time to hand-craft something special for your better half...just kidding.

I bet great things will be said about you today, too. I just know it.

Oh yeah, he's been told he looks like Nicholas Cage in The Last of the Mohichans (sp?)is one of his favorite movies. So he will appreciate the comparison.

Hi Lisa,
I am glad you found your true love and I do believe in destiny. I found my true love and we knew from the beginning that we were meant to be. Things aren't always easy, but more often than not we are happy and we have two amazing children to show for it. Happy Valentines day to you and your family. -Mike

Speaking of family, my wife and I had a special talk with our children about studying hard and learning to acheive your dreams. We used Senator Barack Obama as an example of a man who is overcoming obstacles such a racial predjudice run for President of the United States. Even if he does not win, and I think he will, I feel he is doing a great service to young people as an example doing your best and achieving your goals. That is what we are trying to teach our children and I am proud to be able to point to a man like Senator Obama to teach my kids.

PS. I think Daniel Day-Lewis looks like my son. :-)

Nice post. I feel that way about my wife. I have a great story about the first time I really met her. Everytime she knows I'm going to tell it to someone she starts rolling her eyes. But she loves it.

Using Senator Obama as an example to your children is a great idea. If you haven't read his book "Dreams from my father" you should. He wrote it back in the mid 90's before his political career.

I'm reading it now and I'm more impressed with him than ever. And the wonderful thing is..he's a GREAT writer too! It's been a long time since we've had a true intellectual running for the White House.

Best Wishes,

Mom Mc,

That's how I feel..all those good looking men take after Todd not the other way around..:)

Love you,

you're right about that. I think if the woman in a man's life encourages him (not badgers him) into being romantic then it's easier for him to do. But I think Todd is just a natural romantic. It's in the way he thinks and looks at the world.

I'm laughing because Todd and I have been together long enough that we're used to our stories so he probably gets the same eye roll from me when he starts on the story of how he convinced me to come to Las Vegas the first time for a visit.

I'll loan Todd out to teach your hubby a few I'm a very lucky woman. Seriously, though, most people have a romantic spirit, even if it's buried under the surface.

Happy belated Valentine's to you too!

Thanks. Life is funny, isn't it? I met him so eary but we so much to learn before we could be good partners for each other. Finally, it was the right time.

I used to make jewelry and making a donut necklace is a good way to begin. Give it a try. April would probably love it!
