Secrets to Happiness from the Dalai Lama

On this day, when most of the United States is recovering from too much turkey and pumpkin pie, I thought I'd share with you the wisdom of the Dalai Lama. Here is his advice on how to achieve happiness. But even achieving is a misnomer...he would probably say to stop trying and just be.
Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

Follow the three Rs: Respect for self, respect for others and responsibility for all your actions.

Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

Spend some time alone every day.

Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.

A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.

Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.

Be gentle with the earth.

Once a year, go some place you've never been before.

Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

Have a wonderfully relaxing weekend and enjoy the company of your friends and family. Remember to be thankful for what you have and what you love. Be thankful for yourself, your body and your mind.

Hi! I'm quite ignorant when it comes to why some countries and world leaders are afraid of the Dalai Lama. Is it just a matter of being politically correct? I think some people just need to have their heads read! Regards Peter!

Pete,

I don't know the answer to that. I'm just now becoming familiar with him and the Buddist doctrine. So far as I know, to answer your question, China is the main country who has "trouble" with him. They invaded Tibet and made him enemy number 1#.

If anyone reading this knows more please add to what I've said.

Peace,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
These are great. My favorite here? "Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck." That sounds like "Be careful what you wish for, you ,might actually get it." I love these words of wisdom because they are so true. I hope your enoying our weekend. -Mike

This post is just what I needed right now.

I love "when you lose, don't lose the lesson."

I might should have that tattooed on my forehead.

All really great advice. Sometimes it's so easy to get stuck when all we really have to do is take care of ourselves, others and just be (and breathe).

Beautiful post.

Heather,

I liked that one, too. I could stand to remember it. And the one about sometimes it's a blessing not to get what you want..that's a biggy for me.

Hope the holiday was great for you and April.

Peace,
Lisa
